President Barack Obama

Graphite and Prismacolor on Paper
18″ x  12″
2016

This portrait was done during the transition period between the end of Barack Obama’s presidency and the beginning of Donald Trump’s. It follows my earlier techniques and motifs like the use of color in conjunction with graphite. The particular moment of its production and release on social media, when many found themselves deeply uncomfortable with the sharp political transition and eager to cling on to Obama’s fading leadership, made this drawing all the more impactful. Further, this piece sparked a developing interest in infusing themes of contemporary American culture into future compositions.
