Fixation on the singular fantasy of one’s ego comes at the cost of his surroundings. In this portrayal, disconnected from the chaotic pain and burning anguish of his crowd, Narcissus’s distorted yet beautiful reflections in the shards consume him and blind him to the disasters of his own making.
