Reaching for Dreams

Acrylic on Canvas
18″ x  24″
2017

Drawing from the visual language of Cubism, this piece experiments with early 20th century techniques involving abstraction and dimensionality to tell a story about reaching out and holding on to hope in spite of great distance and fragmentation. Upon first glance, the canvas is confusing, appearing as simply a field of geometric shapes and distinct lines. But with longer inspection, the image of a hand emerges from the grid, reaching out towards an abstracted butterfly in the clouds.
