Drosophila CNS

Acrylic on Canvas
18″ x  18″
2017

This small acrylic piece seems abstract but actually depicts the central nervous system of a fruit fly. The quick painting takes inspiration from the research in which I participated in the neurobiology lab of Dr. Robert Carrillo at the University of Chicago. The lab studies nervous system development using Drosophila melanogaster as a model species, and I simply wanted to replicate the unexpectedly stunning beauty I observed in the work we did.
