As the world reckons with a global pandemic, each of us confronts our susceptibility to death. Whether it comes suddenly in the form of a virus or meets us slowly as we age, the end of our respective tracks is inevitable. But only when we remove our blinds to this truth can we be awakened to the lonely journeys and emotionless routines to which we have grown accustomed. Just as the foreseeing Prometheus revolted against fate to bring the fire of knowledge and arts to humanity, we rebel against that formerly passionless and passive life. Liberated by a recognition of our ever-present vulnerability to death, we can turn away from isolation and single-mindedness toward compassion, vibrancy, and a more enriched life.
